Why has my pump stopped working?

One of the main reasons a pump can stop working is if the impeller gets clogged up. To check this, remove the outer casing to uncover the impeller. This enables you to see if there is any excess dirt or other materials that could cause a blockage.

How do I keep my fountain water clear?

There are many different types of product to do this. They all keep the water fresh and clear if used regularly.
Do not use any chlorine-based products, as chlorine is corrosive.

Is water loss normal?

Yes. It is impossible to prevent some water loss taking place. This is down to evaporation. It is
important to make sure water levels are maintained at all times to stop the pump drying out.

Why has my pond turned green?

A pond normally turns green if its ecosystem is out of balance. This can be caused by lack of filtration, overstocking with fish or lack of aeration. How much life a pond can sustain will generally depend on its size,
so try not to overcrowd it.

Fountain Maintenance

  • Periodically change the water and clean according to the water condition. Generally, prevent
the water from becoming sticky with the forming of micro-organisms.
  • Additives can be purchased to use in the water to help prevent algae growth.
  • When cleaning the water feature do not use an abrasive material as this may cause damage.
Use a soft brush or sponge with a mild soapy solution.
  • Regularly check the water level, particularly in hot weather and always ensure that the level is
    well above the pump.
  • Adjust the pump flow control, in order to avoid unnecessary 'splashing'.
  • Switch off the power when the fountain is not in use for long periods of time.
  • Only use the correct voltage power as indicated on the pump.

The Pump

  • Always disconnect the electrical power before the pump is checked.
  • If any abnormal sound is heard during the pump operation, turn off the power
supply and check the rotor assembly as follows.

    1. Remove the pump cover and rotor plate from the front.
    2. Grip the impeller and gently take out the rotor assembly from the pump.
3.Rinse the motor assembly and the housing with clean water in order to remove any grit or debris.
4.If any breakage or surface damage is found on the rotor assembly, please contact your supplier,
    if replacement needed.

Winter Protection

  • During the winter period we recommend that any water feature be moved to an area that will be free
    from the effects of frost.
  • Ensure the pump is permanently submerged in water to prevent rubber seals from drying out.

Electrical Supply

As of 1 January 2005, changes to the Building Regulations affect domestic electrical installations in England and Wales. You don't need to be a qualified electrician to make changes to your home's electrical system, but the work must be done in accordance with the Regulations. If you do minor electrical work, such as replacing a socket, light or cable, or adding extra sockets or lights, the work should be inspected and tested once it is finished, and before it is used, by a 'competent person' who can issue a safety certificate. A 'competent person' must be qualified / authorised in respect of the inspection and testing of an installation, as required by the Regulations.

Before you start major electrical work, local authority building control officers must be notified. Again, once the work has been done, and before it is used, the job must be inspected and tested by a 'competent person' who can issue a safety certificate. Major jobs include any work in a kitchen or special location - any place where there is water, for instance.

New installations or alterations to existing ones in a bathroom or spa, or installing lighting and power sockets in the garden, a re all classified as major work. We recommend that you review and understand the Regulations before you undertake any work and if you require any clarification you should contact your Local Authority Building Control Department.
